Repentance is Believing in God

Alma 42:13 [Book Of Mormon]
“Therefore according to justice the plan of redemption could not be brought about, only on condition of repentance of men in the probationary state, yea, this preparatory state; for except it were for these conditions, mercy could not take effect except it shout destroy the work of justice. Now the work of justice could not be destroyed; if so, God would cease to be God. “
Repentance first then redemption. You know how tedious this is? The Book of Mormon is about the most tedious piece of work ever written. It goes back and forth so often. But this stuff?
What part of this is so hard to understand? God died for all of mankind. The plan of redemption has nothing to do with what we do. The plan of redemption is the cross. Repentance and faith are the product of hearing the word of God, of hearing the gospel that our sins are forgiven. Repentance is impossible for man to do without the work of the Holy Spirit. Repentance is more than feeling sorry for doing bad. In fact repentance is believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, something you can only do after you hear the gospel which is done as an objective fact outside of us. To make repentance a requirement makes salvation something we do. But our biggest sin, the one sin from which all of the rest of our hideous actions and thoughts spring from is…. Refusing to believe in God, to fear love and trust in Him above all things. Instead we fear others more, including family, we love others more, including family, we trust others more, including family, than God.
Family is the cursed idol of Utah. It is the cursed idol of Mormonism. Oh it looks so pious. Ever wonder why Jesus makes such harsh statements about family? Ever wonder why he says it will be the family that persecutes the Christian? And so many know Mormonism to be a false religion, but the answer these days? It teaches good family values, what could be wrong with that? It’s all that matters?
Really? Not according to Jesus it isn’t. All that matters to Jesus is that He is God, and God therefore died for you which is more than your family is willing to do for you. He died for you to forgive you your sins, to save you from death, from sin, from the power of the devil. He died to do what you family can’t do, which is why Jesus died for them too. And if one really loved his family and cared about truth he’d leave the Mormon faith regardless of whether he then faced divorce, or was threatened to be turned out by his family shunned or what not, because only a willingness to do that will show them the love of Christ and the importance of truth. It isn’t without reason that the Greek word for witness is Martyr. People face persecution even from family for being Christian.

This post completely made my day, I struggle with the "family" issue within our own family. You have shed some light on a strong topic and I thank you! :)

Nicci,
I know. This is the sad reality of where we live.
