They would not Repent

Rev. 16:8-11 (ESV)
The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people with fire. [9] They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory.
[10] The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish [11] and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds.

“They did not repent and give him glory. “ It is a peculiar thing with some people. Rather than be chastised the punishment only hardens their heart. You would think they would repent and be saved, but instead as the fire comes their hatred increases. When I was growing up, my younger brother had a habit of mouthing off to me. I, in turn, had a habit of beating the snot out of him. At some point my brother would say he was sorry, but when I let up he would cuss me again. I really could not understand why one who just had the snot beat out of him would then cuss the person again inviting yet another beating. But such it is with people. So it is with the heathen who will not know God. Even when they know they are being chastised by God they would rather cuss him than obey.
