Rev. 8:8-9 (ESV)
The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. [9] A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
The second trumpet blows and visits judgment on the sea. The first third burning land, as this judgment is being meted out, partial destruction after partial destruction man is affected.
After every catastrophe, typhoon, volcanic eruption, wild fire there is some pundit that blames it on a particular sin or history of the people directly affected. The attitude is often one of self-righteous judgment of others, and shows little compassion. Truth be told we all deserve God’s judgment. I think these men go too far in ascribing these catastrophes to people on behalf of perceived sins particular to whomever, and perhaps even so far as seeing it as God’s testimony against the election of these people, as if Christ did not die for them. Yet these catastrophes are often of apocalyptic magnitude and should be reminders to us all of God’s judgment on this world and our need for Christ, they should awaken in us a repentance and charitable nature that cares for our neighbor more than ourselves as Christ cared for us.

these "Pundits" remind me of Job's counsellors who tried to explain why God sent a tornado to colapse the house on his children. (actually Satan sent it) - Talk about taking the LORD's name in vain.
Rather that we would follow the example of Abraham, our father in faith and say, "That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Gen 18:25.
