Bo Giertz, New Book Ready for Order

Brothers Sisters,
Those of you who know me know that I have been translating a lot of Bo Giertz material. I think Bo Giertz had one of the greatest Christian minds and Confessional Lutheran voices of the Twentieth century, but due to the fact that he spoke and wrote mostly in Swedish his material was not well distributed in the world of English Speaking Confessional Lutheranism. I'm doing all I can to rectify that problem.
Here in published form is my latest effort, "The Knights of Rhodes". Here Bo Giertz puts flesh on the Theology of the Cross, as he did the distinction between Law and Gospel in "The Hammer of God." It is a wonderful and engaging read, and if I don't say so myself, Dr. Adam Francisco does say it is elegantly translated.
Bo Giertz pits two theologies of Glory against each other in the historic showdown between the Ottoman Empire and the Knights Hospitallers. In the end the Christian's lose but come to know the necessity of Christ. In the mean time many questions and issues that press us today are tackled. Like the Christian response to Islamic aggression, the use of torture, the vocation of Soldier and the Christian life, and the ability to change only ourselves if anything at all.
The price is $27 and worth every penny. You can order by calling 541 344 1528, it will be available for internet purchase at Wipf and Stock online next week, and Amazon.Com in about 6 weeks, though I see there is already a "used" copy for sale there and here!

I just nabbed it up at Amazon, along with a couple of books with Sasse.

Now when my wife asks I'll say, "Bror twisted my arm".

Yours,

Larry

Funny I know another guy who ordered the same copy from Amazon... Turns out the guy is one of two distributors for Wipf and Stock, so I think that 1 book for sale there is like the oil in the widows jar...

Larry,
Thanks for buying a copy. Help us pastors out.

I'm looking forward to reading it. The theology of the cross vs TOG was one of those "epiphany" moments for me. Still produces a lot of 'ah ha" moments. So I'm very interested in this aspect/presentation of it.

I loved "Hammer of God".

We're bursting with pride for you.
How many copies should I be getting, you think?

I placed about a dozen Giertz devotion books, but I still have some left. :)

Amazon.com does not want to ship to me and Amazon.ca does not have it. One will have to use the phone number.

Brigitte,
Thanks. I appreciate your support. I actually get royalties on this one so... I'm hesitant to limit the number my friends might buy by giving them a number. But maybe on for you and martin for starters. I think it will be an easier book to give to people though. I think this because it doesn't demand the discipline of a daily devotional. nor does one need to be or even have to want to be a Christian to enjoy the narrative. It is a good story, historically based and informative on many levels. So get your local bookstore to buy 50 copies!

Brigitte,
If you click on the here in my revised post you can order a "used" copy from the same book seller, but Abebooks will ship across borders, costs more money, but I think that is always the case shipping across borders.

Local bookstore? I have no local bookstore. This is the wild west. There is Chapters and Costco. The independents in the city are mostly belly up. (In Germany, where there are so many horrible rules--this goes with Steve's posts--the cover price has to be charged even by the big sellers. Hence, every town and village still has a book shop.)

OK, I phoned the number. If you buy 5 you get 40% off. Did you know that? That's for buying from them. So, I got five. That makes it $16.00. That's almost the same as three from Amazon.
