Bo Giertz, New Book Ready for Order
Those of you who know me know that I have been translating a lot of Bo Giertz material. I think Bo Giertz had one of the greatest Christian minds and Confessional Lutheran voices of the Twentieth century, but due to the fact that he spoke and wrote mostly in Swedish his material was not well distributed in the world of English Speaking Confessional Lutheranism. I'm doing all I can to rectify that problem.
Here in published form is my latest effort, "The Knights of Rhodes". Here Bo Giertz puts flesh on the Theology of the Cross, as he did the distinction between Law and Gospel in "The Hammer of God." It is a wonderful and engaging read, and if I don't say so myself, Dr. Adam Francisco does say it is elegantly translated.
Bo Giertz pits two theologies of Glory against each other in the historic showdown between the Ottoman Empire and the Knights Hospitallers. In the end the Christian's lose but come to know the necessity of Christ. In the mean time many questions and issues that press us today are tackled. Like the Christian response to Islamic aggression, the use of torture, the vocation of Soldier and the Christian life, and the ability to change only ourselves if anything at all.
The price is $27 and worth every penny. You can order by calling 541 344 1528, it will be available for internet purchase at Wipf and Stock online next week, and Amazon.Com in about 6 weeks, though I see there is already a "used" copy for sale there and here!
