Show the Earnestness

Hebrews 6:9-12 (ESV)
Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation. [10] For God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do. [11] And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, [12] so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Is this a back track? I wonder. It seems the admonishment above was directed at these people. Perhaps the writer was afraid the original readers of this letter were in danger of falling away? The fact that they are reading this letter though shows they are still members of the church, and God is not going to overlook them, their works, or their faith and love. We should desire of all Christians that they show the same earnestness…

In other words, he's saying, "I pray that you really 'get it'." The Gospel, that is.

A Better Estimate

"But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner."

My Nana's thinking exactly concerning all her children! She was always sure we all outshone the stars...even when less than perfect mention was made regarding any of us...*; )
