Why does Jesus bear the sins of his people again?

Alma Seven Summary [book of Mormon]
I found this chapter summary to be interesting.
“Christ shall be born of Mary—he shall loose the bands of death and bear the sins of his people—Thos who repent, are baptized, and keep the commandments shall have eternal life—Filthiness cannot inherit the kingdom of God—humility, faith, hope, and charity are required.”
Well the prophecies of the Book of Mormon are definitely filled with more detail than they are in the Bible. The Bible gives them just enough detail to make them credible prophecies, but why would one care beforehand that the mothers name would be Mary? There is almost too much detail in this kind of thing, and unneeded detail.
But the real question here is why did Jesus bear the sins of his people if I have to keep the commandments to inherit eternal life? Really, if keeping the commandments were possible Christ would not have had to bear the sins of his people.

Right, Bror!

I have never met anyone who is able to get past the 1st Commandment.

(except for Mormons, and many Evangelicals and R. Catholics... alot of those types seem to be doing fairly well if you'd ask them)
