Fearing the One Who Made Heaven and Earth

Rev. 14:6-12 (ESV)
Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. [7] And he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water."
[8] Another angel, a second, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality."
[9] And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, [10] he also will drink the wine of God's wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. [11] And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name."
[12] Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

Three angels, three messages, one called a gospel. “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
“Worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water,” You see this is why it is so important that we acknowledge Jesus to be God. We have no other God whom we are to fear, praise, or worship but the one who made heaven and earth and all that it is in it. We should fear him. His hour of judgment has come. I think it just a bit quaint when people want to down play fearing God. It seems anathema today that one should fear this God. The disciples feared God, they feared Jesus. On those occasions when Jesus showed himself to be God, it was profound fear that came over the disciples. And it is right to fear someone with that power. He is holy, and his holiness is such that it is incompatible with our sin, with who we are as sinners. Without the Grace of God we would be consumed in his presence for our sin. Yes love and trust God too. Love and trust are not incompatible with fear. Children with the best of parents know to fear, love and trust them. It isn’t that we should downplay fear, but temper it with love and trust. For just as we have every reason to fear God, we also have every reason to love and trust the God who became man for us men and our salvation.
