Receiving the Kingdom

“Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Luke 18:15-17)
Luke speaks of infants here. They receive the kingdom. It is amazing that one thinks they can earn the kingdom by repentance and or faith. In truth these are the kingdom of God, one who has repentance and faith in Christ has been given the kingdom. This is why we must receive it like a child. Because we cannot enter it. It isn’t there to be entered, but to be received as a gift. So it is that it is the work of the Holy Spirit, who brings repentance, who gives faith, who works confession. And of course anyone who knows anything about Baptism knows that the Holy Spirit is given in Baptism (Act. 2 38-39) which is why baptism is for you and your children.
