Worship the Lord Your God, and Him Alone Serve

Luke 4:5-8 (ESV)
And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, [6] and said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. [7] If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." [8] And Jesus answered him, "It is written,

" 'You shall worship the Lord your God,
and him only shall you serve.' "
The Devil realizing Jesus is the Son of God, goes to temptation number two. He will give Jesus the world. It is peculiar that Jesus doesn’t question that it is the Devil’s to give. Jesus knows the Devil is indeed in possession of it at this time. But Jesus also knows it does not belong to him, and he knows how to take it back. He will not worship Satan to get away from the cross. Jesus will worship God and only God. He knows what it means. He will serve his Father and him alone. That is he will not serve himself, say by turning a stone into bread. He will not serve Satan or worship him in order to avoid the cross. He will put the Father’s needs before his own, because His Father wants to redeem the world.
