Genealogy in Luke

Luke 3:23-38 (ESV)

So Luke gets around to a genealogy in the third chapter for the Joseph who was assumed to be the father of Jesus. The various genealogies show that the Jewish people at the time had different ways of calculating these things, and attached an importance to them that Christians don’t much attach any more. I suppose thatPauls counsel to Titus to avoid foolish controversies and genealogies has take hold. Today they are more or less hobbies if they are anything for Christians. It is fun to see who your parents were, and who their parents were and so on. But they have little to no bearing on anything we do today.
Jesus started his ministry at the age of thirty. This is where we get that information from. Today that seems young. I suspect in his day it was rather old. It is never to late to start.
