The Favor of God

Luke 2:39-40 (ESV)
And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. [40] And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.

Some make a big deal of them returning to Nazareth when Matthew says they went to Egypt. It is possible to do both. In fact, one might could locate the journey to Egypt withint the “performed everything according to the Law of the Lord.” Being as “the law” often just meant scripture. Luke isn’t occupying himself with all that, he is getting them to Nazareth, from whence they will make they yearly pilgrimages to Jerusalem.
The more interesting thing to dwell on is the fact that Jesus grows the same as other children, he lives our life. He becomes strong, and he is filled with wisdom. It is possible to be both strong and wise. The truly wise do tend to their bodies. I find it even helps where the intellect is concerned to have a healthy body. I would guess Jesus fulfilled this ideal.
On top of that, God’s favor was upon him. One I suppose can speculate as to how that manifested itself. But this is the case with all God’s children including you and me, even as we have been baptized into Christ. God’s favor rests on us too.
