Matthew 12:33-37 (ESV)
"Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. [34] You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. [35] The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. [36] I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, [37] for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
Jesus continues his diatribe against the unbelieving Pharisees, with some pretty harsh words. He begins by comparing men to trees, good trees give good fruit, bad trees bad fruit. If one has a good heart then their words are good.
The problem is no one is borne with a good heart. The heart has to be made good. This is the work of the Holy Spirit. For apart from him, the heart of man is filled with nothing but adultery, murder, sensuous thoughts. But when in Christ we are forgiven our sins, then the aim of the charge or the pastor is given. “The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” ( 1 Tim. 1:5 (ESV)
It is only with faith in the forgiveness of sins and the work of Jesus Christ that our hearts are made good. “For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Romans 10:10 (ESV) But when we do not confess Jesus Christ, then our own words will judge us. For Christ did not come into the world to condemn the world but to save it. But those who refuse to believe are condemned already.
Condemned already, strange saying, and I’ll probably come back to it again. But you see this is why Jesus comes, because we are already condemned. We need Jesus because we are already condemned. Before he came we had no hope. We were condemned. It is not as if we lived in some neutral state, or live in some neutral state where we can decide for or against Jesus, and thereby save or condemn ourselves. We are condemned. Jesus comes to save, and that is all. He doesn’t need to condemn.

Bror, I'm really enjoying the reaction buttons. On this one I clicked "cool". Good to see you yesterday - happy Friday!
"We are condemned. Jesus comes to save, and that is all. He doesn’t need to condemn."
What more can we add to that?
(I'm sure plenty of people will have a lot to add)
