"Whoever Receives You..."

Matthew 10:40-42 (ESV)
"Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. [41] The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. [42] And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward."

“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. “ Jesus ends his instructions to the disciples with this. It is at the heart of what it means to be an apostle. You speak the words of him who sent you. But this is not how people see it today with red letter Bibles. Most don’t realize that they are actually ignoring the words in red when they try to pit them against what Christ has said.
I don’t get how one thinks that they can interpret the words of Christ better than the apostles. One should be suspect of this as it was the apostles who later wrote what Jesus said!
The other pitfall is to say that Jesus didn’t say that but Paul said it. This is horrid reasoning, and totally ignores what it means to be an apostle, one sent. If you ignore or reject what is said by one Jesus has sent, you ignore and reject Jesus. If you call Paul a misogynist, a homophobe etc. you call Jesus these things. But if you listen to them, you listen to Jesus.
