Father, Son and Christ, hopelessly confused in BOM

3 Nephi 1:24 [Book of Mormon]
“And there were not contentions save it were a few that began to preach, endeavoring to prove by the scriptures that it was no more expedient to observe the law of Moses. Now in this thing they err, having not understood the scriptures”
So 3 Nephi starts with the Birth of Christ marked in the new world by a night in which there is no darkness, and a preaching of repentance and the baptisms of many.
But then there are those that are saying we no longer have to follow the law of Moses because Christ came. And in that they erred? I don’t see Mormons abstaining from pork? On the other hand they build temples all over the place contrary to the word of God in Leviticus 17, and the fourth chapter of the gospel of John. Of course they want to argue they are building temples in accord with old Testament practices.
So which is it, is it in play or not?
But to bring up the law of Moses here, when people are building temples all over the new world is pretty ridiculous. That hasn’t been playing out for quit a while even among the supposedly pious in the Book of Mormon.
