Matthew 8:28-34 (ESV)
And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. [29] And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" [30] Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. [31] And the demons begged him, saying, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs." [32] And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. [33] The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. [34] And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.
“Have you come here to torment us before our time?” The demons knew who Jesus was. They knew that he would come one day to judge the living and the dead. They demons know even to this day, that their days on earth are numbered and there will come a time when he will bind them all in hell. In the mean time they enjoy their time on earth, their freedom. But they could not understand why Jesus had come so early. It wasn’t their time. Maybe they don’t know their time for certain. But Jesus had not come as he was expected to come, in clouds of glory. That is the coming the demons fear most. For then their time will be up. But why is he here now? To torment them before their time? No. Quite the opposite, he came not to torment but to save. Of course he doesn’t save demons, but the people they possess. He came to save us. So that we would not experience the torments of demons in hell.
I suppose that is the other thing that I always find bothersome about depictions of hell. The depictions of hell show demons in gleeful joy torturing the souls of humans. It won’t be that way. Hell is a place of torture also for the demons. It is a place God has created especially for the Devil and demons, to torment them for eternity. He created it for the devil and demons, not for humanity. He desires to save humanity.

Good point.
If I go there, I'm glad those other SOB's won't be having a good time either.
Oooops.
Pardon my language, Gitte.
