The Golden Rule

Matthew 7:12 (ESV)
"So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
The golden rule, it puts the law into positive motion. Rather than a list of don’ts, and an occasional do, this is all about doing. Following the law is not about merely not murdering, but insuring your neighbors welfare too. It isn’t merely about not committing adultery, but also about being faithfully faithful to your spouse and satisfying their desires and needs as you would have yours satisfied. It isn’t about just not stealing, but also protecting not only yours but your neighbors also.
This sums up the law and the prophets according to Jesus. People think it makes the law easier because it doesn’t list 10 do’s and don’ts. That is delusional. This ups the ante. This makes us even more guilty. Seriously, you can’t follow this without also adhering to the Ten Commandments. Perhaps I could have just left that, you can’t follow this. Jesus did though. He fulfills the law and the prophets. He shows us this love in his love for us. And with his love for us, he forgives our sins, baptizes us into his name, his being, makes us part of him, encorporates us into his body, and thus in the forgiveness of sins the law and the prophets are fulfilled, not out of concern for one’s self, but in the selfless love of Christ who died for all.
