Obtain Forgiveness?

ALMA 39:6 [Book of Mormon]
“For behold, if ye deny the Holy Ghost when it once has had place in you, and ye know that ye deny it, behold, this is a sin which is unpardonable; yea, and whosoever murdereth against the light and knowledge of God, it is not easy for him to obtain forgiveness; yea, I say unto you, my son, that it is not easy for him to obtain a forgiveness.”
So… This is the BOM’s interpretation of “The Sin Against the Holy Spirit” for which Jesus says there is no forgiveness. But the Book of Mormon would rather water down Christ’s own language, and say that it is merely difficult for the person who commits this sin to “obtain forgiveness.”
This is what Christ says: “And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” (Matthew 12:32 (ESV) “But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"— (Mark 3:29 (ESV) “And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” (Luke 12:10 (ESV)
According to Christ, the person who has committed this sin has not chance of being forgiven. Not one. Much ink has been spilled to determine how it is one sins against the Holy spirit. But Lutheran Scholars have generally figured that if you are worried about it, then you have not committed it, and can stop worrying, as your own vexation of the soul is proof enough of your faith that cannot exist apart from the forgiveness of sins and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Mormon’s on the other hand figure forgiveness is something you earn or obtain by your own merits. They conceiving of Forgiveness not as a gift but a just reward for living a right life or doing something good, can’t see why any sins should prohibit one from eventually being forgiven if they work hard enough. And I won’t even delve into the awful syntax that writes “obtain a forgiveness.”
Forgiveness is not ours to obtain, it is Christ’s to give. He does this by grace. It is in fact impossible for us to obtain forgiveness. It must be given, and it is given, freely. If Forgiveness isn’t given it isn’t forgiveness. It may be some sort of reconciliation, but forgiveness is undeserved mercy from God. Our sinfulness actually needs to be taken care of before we can even do anything good. And they only way sin is taken care of is by forgiveness.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephes. 2:8-9 (ESV)
