Rev. 21:5-8 (ESV)
And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." [6] And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. [7] The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. [8] But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
John receives a command to write. “It is done!” The perfect of [Ginomai] “or to become”. In other words everything has become. Everything has been brought to pass. What has been brought to pass? All. There is nothing left to be brought to pass. It is finished, as he says from the cross. Jesus has paid the ultimate price for our sins. He who is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning or source, and the end, telos. All is encompassed in him. He is the source of life, and he is the end of life, the telos or purpose of life, all in one. And from him comes the water of life, WITHOUT PAYMENT! What a wonder. What a
Jesus gives life, and he is the reason the purpose of life. In him life is truly enjoyed, it is given meaning, value and purpose. And in hiem it has all been brought to pass
I find that verse in Rev. incredible. As the book of the apocalypse is winding to an end, Jesus commands John to write that it is done, more literaly it has come to pass. So many look at Revelation as a book with which to decipher the future, and current events, the Christian version of Nostradamus, crystal balls, and tarot cards, Jesus won’t have any of it. The Apocolypse here recorded, he says it has come to pass. What ever interpretation you might try to give it must take this into account. It is finished.
Now Jesus makes all things new. A new heaven and a new earth, and a new you to enjoy it all, and all a gift to be received without payment. But those who are unbelievers and therefore, cowardly, detestable, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and liars, their portion is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, the second death. The first death they live even now.
