Gorvernment Seduction

Rev. 18:21-24 (ESV)
Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

"So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence,
and will be found no more;
[22] and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters,
will be heard in you no more,
and a craftsman of any craft
will be found in you no more,
and the sound of the mill
will be heard in you no more,
[23] and the light of a lamp
will shine in you no more,
and the voice of bridegroom and bride
will be heard in you no more,
for your merchants were the great ones of the earth,
and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.
[24] And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints,
and of all who have been slain on earth."
“and all nations were deceived by your sorcery, and in her as found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.” Political power is such a seductress. The problem is that it is also needed. Those who are addicted to eating can’t quit eating, they have to eat. So in someways it can be a harder struggle than say, quitting smoking. One does not need to smoke. But when you smoke you are given to your addiction. When you eat you can’t give in to the addiction. This is the problem with government. We need it. Anarachists dream, but is simply isn’t possible to live in their version of Utopia. But government has a way of seducing you so you eat more of it than is healthy, begin to put your trust and faith in it to solve your problems. Even those advocating for smaller government can be guilty of the same. There is always this thought that it is government theright kind that is going to anwer all your needs and create your Utopia. Then God is invoked. But not God, just some god somewhere. And he is invoked to solve our earthly problems, to bless our government so that we can be more seduced by her sorcery and wealth. And the vicious cycle continues.
