1 John 1:3-4 (ESV)
That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. [4] And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
We are writing these things that our joy may be complete. Sometimes it seems Evangelism becomes a chore. It is somewhat scary. You don’t know what your friend’s reaction might be. Perhaps you don’t even really know the person you are talking too. There is always that nagging question of whether it is appropriate at this time to talk about your faith. Of Course, society is always saying no. And who hasn’t lost a friend when you tried to gain someone for Christ? One may also wonder though if the friend can’t hear you out concerning the eternal life in Jesus you would like to share with them, whether they were that great of a friend to begin with. Believe me, the friends that hear and believe will see in you greater friendship on the last day. They will see in you love that stepped out of a comfort zone to spare them the fires of hell.
We write these things so that our joy may be complete. This is the trick. To find a joy in sharing our joy with others, our Joy is Jesus Christ the eternal life he has given us in the forgiveness of sins which he won for us on the cross. Whether or not the person we share our faith with believes or not, there is a joy in telling them about Jesus Christ, sharing with them our joy. It is great joy just to share our joy, joy that makes our joy complete. What joy is it if we try to keep it to ourselves, if we are afraid to share it. Normally when we have good news we share it far and wide with our friends. So with the joy we have in Christ. He died and gave us eternal life, that we would have joy in him.
