Scoffers Will Come

2 Peter 3:1-4 (ESV)
This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, [2] that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, [3] knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. [4] They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation."

“For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” Of course there is that parable about the chicken. You know, the farmer feeds him every day. Every day the sun comes up, and the farmer goes out with grain to feed the chicken. The chicken begins to think every day that the sun will come up, and the farmer will feed her. Then the day comes when the farmer has not grain in his hand, but a hatchet. Yesterday is no real indication of tomorrow.
The prophets have predicted, and the Lord has promised that the end will come. And we all know that if judgment day does not happen in our lifetime, that even so, our life will come to an end. And this isn’t to spoil our day. It is just a fact we need to be cognoscente of. The end will come.
In these last days the scoffers have come. They see no reason to believe the end is in sight. They even invade the church at times. Secular society has wipped itself into an eschatological frenzy predicting the end of the world as we know it, blaming global warming etc.
What we know is we have today. God has granted us yet another day. We are in the last days, but we have now. Live now! Believe in Christ, grab onto the forgiveness of sins. We live in Christ. There is no life outside of him. We have today, another day of grace in a sin filled world, another day of grace to share Christ with another person who has no life in Christ, so that they too can live in Christ with us.
