2 Peter 3:5-7 (ESV)
For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, [6] and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. [7] But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
A rather graphic depiction of the end, but also an allusion to the words of Christ that. “As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. [38] For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,” (Matthew 24:37-38 (ESV) The end will come in the same way that it came to all those in the days of Noah, but a few more than 8 will be spared the fire. But perhaps more important in all this is the realization that the whole world has its existence, and depends still to this day by the word that created it.
