James 3:6 (ESV)
And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
Set on fire by hell. False doctrine has a source, the father of lies, the devil himself. These days it seems people could care less if what they believe is true or not. People who do care are ridiculed for caring. But here it is, false doctrine is demonic, maybe even more so than the occult. To lie and gossip is one thing. To lie about God?! Well now why do we care more about our neighbor’s reputation than we do about God’s? Why is our own reputation so much more important than God’s? We don’t tolerate for a second someone spreading a false rumor concerning ourselves. But when it comes to God’s reputation we just right it off as some other pastor’s opinion. Anyone else see a problem with that?
