The spirit that teacheth to pray?

“And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.” (2 Nephi 32:8)
Now this is just peculiar. Every religion in the world, almost all the creations of evil spirits, have incorporated some form of prayer. It isn’t if you pray or not, but who do you pray too? An Evil Spirit has you pray to a false god, any god but the Triune God. Aside from that this is just gibberish. Why would I hearken unto the Spirit that teacheth me to pray, if I didn’t think that I should pray in the first place?

Can you preface early whether you are quoting Scripture or Moroni-type things? I get the first sentence of the quote in my reader, and start thinking, "Okay, where in tarnation is that from. . . oh, wait, it's Erickson again." >=o)

Eric,
I was thinking about that the other day actually. I wondered how many people like you would read the Book of Mormon quote and think it was gospel truth:) before they got to my commentary on it.
I'll try to think of a preface thing. I don't do the reader thing, so I don't know how it appears.
