Father tells us to be Baptized?

“And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father? And the Father said Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son.” (2 Nephi 31:10-11)
Normally you follow someone who has gone before you. Jesus hasn’t showed up yet in this story, still a couple hundred years off. But more than that we begin to see here the old time religion. You begin to see Christianity not as a religion of Gospel of forgiveness, but of law. And Baptism itself is law. Why are you baptized according to this verse? In being baptized you imitate Christ and follow the commandments of the Father.
For one I’m not sure where the Father told us to do any of this. Repent sure, but baptism came by way of Jesus Christ instituted after his death and resurrection necessarily. The Father doesn’t tell us to be baptized in the name of his beloved Son, except insofar as he tells us to listen to his beloved Son, and his Son tells us to be baptized so that our sins can be washed away because we have not kept the commandments of the Father. Don’t even start, you know better. You know you haven’t.
