Once Foolish...?

Titus 3:1-3 (ESV)
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, [2] to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. [3] For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.

“We ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.” I don’t know, but sometimes I get the feeling Paul is describing my present rather than my past here. Perhaps the only difference is now I know better, whereas before I did not. It doesn’t mean I do better. I might try, but I still find myself in the middle of quarrels, not always gentle, and perfect courtesy is not my forte. Only by daily returning to Christ and His forgiveness can I find any hope.

The difference being the Holy Spirit has taken up residence within us and is constantly whispering..."This is the way...walk here..." Unfortunately it is up to us to "Let this mind, that was also in Christ Jesus," be operative in our hearts, as well. The operative word for us is "let". Now this is possible where before it was impossible.

The Holy Spirit presents it to us and by returning daily as you have said...we realize the awesome price that was paid to free us. There at the foot of the cross looking to the One who truly knows us, and loves us still...our hearts are offered... that we may choose the better part...Lord, I believe...help my unbelief...
