Grace be with you

Col. 4:18 (ESV)
I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.
That was kind of unusual in Paul’s day, writing with one’s own hand. I suppose good penmanship was prized more in his day than it is now. Paper was more expensive. You didn’t want anyone’s old scribbles on the parchment. So you would dictate to someone to write for you, you would pay them to write what you said. They would put it in nice handwriting for you. So it must have been special for the Colossians to receive this letter with Paul’s greeting written with his own hand at the bottom. Then he reminds them remember my chains. Don’t forget I am in jail. I think that is a sort of send help if you can.
Grace be with you. Now that is a nice greeting. Grace be with you. It gives what it asks. Grace. It is with you, as Christ is with you.
