Living by the Spirit

Galatians 5:25-26 (ESV)
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [26] Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

We live by the Spirit. If we live, we live by the Spirit. Living here is not referring to the mortal existence we have here on earth, but the eternal life we have in Jesus Christ, the result of faith. We live by the Spirit, not by our own efforts. So we also walk by the Spirit, being led by the Spirit. The result is we have no basis for being conceited, we have no reason to provoke one another, we have not reason to envy one another. We live by the Spirit. The law deceives us into being conceited, from which we provoke one another, and envy others. It cons us into thinking we have progressed, bring about self righteousness, which then provokes others we look down upon, and yet instills in us envy for yet other whom we look up to. The Spirit has no such deception for it is by grace you have been saved.
