When the Perfect comes the Partial will Pass Away.

1 Cor. 13:9-13 (ESV)
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, [10] but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. [11] When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. [12] For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
[13] So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

When the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. Now we know in part, and we prophesy in part. Well maybe we no longer prophesy, except in the sense that we speak the word of God. We don’t impart new revelations. There is no need of new revelations. But there are gaps to our knowledge of God. We don’t know or understand everything about God, we only know and partially understand those things He has revealed to us. These are all we need to know and understand about God, what He has revealed to us in His Son Jesus Christ. Paul compares our situation, of partial knowledge and understanding, to that of a child. I remember some of the things I believed as a child. I remember I was a raving environmentalist and animal rights activist until I was about ten, and realized that those positions were at odds with my dinner. I to this day can’t help but think these positions are somewhat childish. I put them away. When the perfect comes our understanding and our knowledge of God will be completed, it won’t be changed.
People take the idea that now we see in a mirror dimly too far. This is not an excuse for false doctrine. Not all things are meant to be clouded. God has revealed many things to us that are as clear as day to us. We ignore this to our peril, and more important to the peril of those we may mislead. We dare not contradict the word of God, and quote this verse in defense of our position.
