Both of you talked past the other to a degree...But, I think it has to do with passion of calling...like denominationalism. When the Word of God is being preached/taught by Word and example the Holy Spirit works within each person through the gifts distributed at His will. For the most part (there are definite exceptions) denominationalism is merely a groupings of Christians with like minded passion. When we can work in unity of purpose and heart we can affect much aid and comfort while the Holy Spirit draws others by the love that is shared. You have obviously been placed in a body that needs more congregational care at this time...once accomplished, you may be moved as a body to do more outreaching. I certainly agree that before you can effectively reach a community...you must be whole first.
